“And here we have nights more beautiful than your days,” wrote young Jean Racine in a letter to a friend, describing what life was like in Uzes and the Uzeges.
Concerned that the dissolute lifestyle of Paris might corrupt his nephew, Racine had been exiled to Uzes by his uncle, a member of the clergy. In the depths of the Provençal countryside, the cleric felt, there would be little to turn the young playwright’s head.
He was wrong, because Racine fell in love with it.
What Racine wrote almost 600 years ago holds true today: Uzes’ nights really are more beautiful than most people’s days. And its days…are magnificent.
We would like to share the beauties of the town and region with you, in the hope it will enchant you, just like it did Racine so long ago.
