Warning: French Village Ahead!

charming village sign in the Cevennes

Last year, the mayor of a small village in the nearby Cevennes mountains was surprised to find a tourist in his office who complained long and loud about the “noise” of the countryside.

This surprised the mayor, and he listened patiently as the woman (a Parisienne, thank goodness) unleashed all her frustrations. The following year, the mayor was prepared.

A sign was put on the road, at both ends of the village, warning visitors about the perils of living in the countryside.

(Very loosely translated:)

WARNING! FRENCH VILLAGE AHEAD!

Enter at your own risk.

Here, we have clock towers which regularly ring…

Chickens which crow early in the morning, and cows and sheep that may disturb

Some of them may even have a bell around their neck.

And farmers who work hard to put food on your table.

If you can’t handle that, you’re in the wrong place.

But if you can, you will find that we have wonderful local produce, and talented artists who will be happy to help you discover their skills and works of art.
