Neolithic Dolmen, Saint Pons de Calm

Prehistoric dolmen in the Uzeges

It stands alone, six feet tall and massive in construction,  in the garrigue near St. Pons de Calm, a hamlet to the north of Saint Quentin la Potterie.  Built by the neolithic peoples between 5,000 and 25,000 years ago, dolmens were funerary structures. The deceased was placed beneath the large flat stone that is balanced on the four supportive stones.  Examples like this, though most are not in as good a condition, may be found throughout the Uzeges.

Note: If you’re in the area and would like to see it, please send us a message.  We’ll provide detailed information on how to find it (it’s a bit tricky).
